Thought of the Day

The Journey Begins

Welcome to my website!

“Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” ~ Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban)

This is one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite franchises. I have to admit, it was this quote, among others within the Wizarding World, that kept me moving forward. Even when I was in the dark, I kept this quote in the back of my head like some sort of nightlight to keep away the monsters and demons.

It’s why I always encourage others to read the Harry Potter series. Even if it isn’t really their thing, which is okay, it’s better to read something and have a valid opinion, than to spew nonsense about something you neglected to conduct any research for.

Harry Potter is so much more than wands, wizards, flying, and magic. It’s about love, friendship, bravery, kindness, and tolerance. It’s about coming together and fighting for something you believe in. Often times, it’s also about making sacrifices for the greater good.

There is another quote I love, but it isn’t from this franchise. It’s from one of my other favorite movies, ‘Ever After’. In this movie, Leonardo DaVinci tells the young prince who believed the girl he loved was making fun of him, and was about to cast all feelings of love off the very top of the castle “Life without love is no life at all.”

I think this quote fits rather nicely within the Hogwarts walls. Think about it – Voldy was conceived under the influence of a love potion. As a result, he could never understand the reason, or the need, of feelings such as friendship, companionship, or love. Because of this, the ‘life’ he lived was barely a life at all. He had no friends, only followers. He had no love for others, not even himself.  He couldn’t understand Lily’s act of love toward her son, that very act that saved Harry and protected him for all those years. In the end, a loveless life was his ultimate downfall.

With this in mind, I move forward in my own life. I keep love warm in my heart, and I try to always keep a flashlight  on my person when walking in the dark.
